Captain Joe Pistone was born in Brooklyn and raised in the Hudson Valley Region of New York. While living on coastal Maine, he spent most summer days boating to historic lighthouses and exploring the islands on the Gulf of Maine. In 2015, he relocated to Florida and enrolled into the U.S. Coast Guard’s “Captain School”. Upon completion, Salt and Mist Sea Tours was born, offering Lighthouse Tours, Whale Watching, Lobstering and Sunset Cruises. In 2017, Salt and Mist Sea Tours opened a second location in St. Petersburg, Florida offering Dolphin & Island Tours and Sunset Cruises. In 2018, Salt and Mist Sea Tours officially became a Limited Liability Company in both Maine and Florida and in 2019, TripAdvisor, the worlds largest travel website, rated Salt and Mist Sea Tours LLC as the top rated Boat Tour Company in St. Petersburg, FL, earning TripAdvisors “Certificate of Excellence”.

In addition to Salt and Mist Sea Tours, Captain Joe teaches General Navigation and Lobster fishing at a century old maritime camp in Kennebunkport, Maine during the summer months and was also a Captain for Eco Endeavors, a top rated Boat Tour Company on Marco Island, Fl offering eco tours on the 10,000 Islands. He also has experience boating on the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, the Java & Bali Sea, San Francisco Bay, North Atlantic Ocean, many US Lakes and rivers such as Lake Tahoe &  Lake Konstanz, a lake which borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Captain Joe holds dual Bachelor or Arts and Sciences Degree from American International College and is a graduate of the  “Captain School” in Cape Coral, Florida. He is certified in First Aid and CPR, holds a US Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) and is a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain.

She is incredibly seaworthy and fitted with a deep V hull, perfect for the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
